Stowe Mountain Resort Receives the 2007 ASDSO Northeast Regional Award of Merit for Dam Safety

Mt.Mansfield Company, dba Stowe Mountain Resort has received the 2007ASDSO (The Association of State Dam Safety Officials) NortheastRegional Award of Merit. The Association gives this award annually toindividuals or organizations working in the dam safety field that havemade outstanding contributions to dam safety on a regional level.

"We spend a great amount of time each year working on the dam to ensurethat all safety requirements are met," says Scott Reeves, Stowe’s VP ofMountain Operations. "It’s great to know that our new lake provides theski area with adequate water for snowmaking while supplying a cleanconsistent source of water to sustain our streams and river," saidReeves.

Stowe’s snowmaking water conservation programs began in 2001. Programoutcomes include the decreased reliance on stream withdrawals duringlow flows and improved health of the aquatic community. In 2005 SMRbegan operation of a new 110 million-gallon snowmaking water storagefacility named Peregrine Lake. Additionally, SMR established a systemthat treats and recycles storm water for snowmaking purposes andinstalled state of the art snowmaking equipment.
