A two-page color spreadhighlighting a brilliant autumn photo by Stowe photographer DonLandwehrle entices the reader to this 213-year-old town in the GreenMountains of Vermont. Editor Robert Sullivan has been coming to Stowesince he was a child in the ‘60’s. He states that one of the reasonsthat Stowe was chosen is because: “It's pulled off the amazing trick ofbecoming famous and a destination, yet remained true to its essence: Itis what it is, a New England village of great charm and a day-to-daythat features village rhythms”.
Not to be outdone by “100 Places to See…” Stowe is also one in 1,000Places To See in the USA & Canada Before You Die, by PatriciaSchultz (Workman Press), which was released on June 7. Three-and-a-halfyears ago, Schultz also authored the phenomenally successful 1,000Places to See Before You Die, in which Stowe also had a presence, andwhich has spent a staggering 162 weeks, and still counting, on the NewYork Times bestseller list. Stowe properties featured include the TrappFamily Lodge, Topnotch Resort & Spa, Stone Hill Inn, the GreenMountain Club and the Long Trail, and Stowe Mountain Resort.
“Stowe for me has it all - it is the quintessential New England town, boasting unmatched skiing possibilities for all levels - and lots ofhorizontal opportunities for the Nordic inclined, says Schultz.. “Anadded bonus was discovering that it is every bit as beautifulyear-round and not just during the winter months alone. Hotel choice isalso important to me - I am a big hotel buff, from the small andromantic to the large and luxurious - and Stowe is handsomely endowedin this department”.
